NRC announces resumption of Warri–Itakpe train service

After weeks of suspension for critical maintenance, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will resume operations on Wednesday, 29th October 2025. In a press release signed by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC stated that the temporary suspension became necessary to enable the corporation to carry out essential repairs, system checks, and maintenance on the tracks and rolling stock to enhance passenger safety and service reliability. “The temporary suspension was necessary to carry out critical repairs, maintenance, and system checks on the tracks and rolling stock to ensure the comfort, reliability, and safety of passengers,” the statement noted. The corporation also announced that the online booking portal will reopen by 12 noon on Monday, 27th October 2025, ahead of the resumption date. Passengers can make bookings through https://nrc-fane.ng or visit designated stations to secure their tickets. Operations are expected to begin with seven coaches — six standard class and one business class — while a new timetable, including temporary speed restrictions for monitoring and safety, will be released on Monday. Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, assured passengers of improved services, stating that the corporation remains committed to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient rail transportation along the Warri–Itakpe corridor. He said, “The NRC has renewed its commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient rail services as passenger operations resume fully on the Warri–Itakpe corridor.” The Warri–Itakpe rail line, one of Nigeria’s most strategic transport corridors, connects Delta and Kogi States, providing an important link for commuters and cargo movement between the South-South and North-Central regions.
