Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the immediate past Vice-President of Ghana, is set to appear before the vetting committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 flagbearer race.
According to Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, one of the leading activists of the opposition party, the former Vice President will face the vetting committee on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
The NPP initially set September 15, 2025, as the date to commence the vetting of the presidential aspirants. However, the party postponed it to September 23, without providing any reason.
Dr Bawumia’s main contender in the NPP flagbearer race, Kennedy Agyapong, will also appear before the committee on Tuesday.
Other aspirants such as Dr Bryan Acheampong, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum will also take their turns later.

The NPP flagbearer race heats up
The NPP flagbearer race, set for Saturday, September 23, 2025, is heating up, with the aspirants touring the country to solicit votes from the party’s delegates.
Each of the aspirants paid GH¢100,000 for nomination forms and GH¢500,000 as a filing fee.
Aside from this, they were also required to pay a development levy of GH¢4 million each to help rebuild the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bawumia face off again
The January 31 presidential primary would be the second time Kennedy Agyapong and his viral would be facing each other for the flagbearer position.
In November 2023, Dr Bawumia, then the incumbent Vice-President, emerged as the NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 election during the party’s primary.
He defeated Agyapong, a former MP for Assin Central in the Central Region of Ghana, by over 60 per cent of the valid votes cast by the NPP delegates.
The former Vice President, however, lost the national elections heavily to John Dramani Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Ghanaians wish Bawumia well on his vetting
Ghanaians on social media have wished Dr Bawumia well as he prepares to appear before the vetting committee.

Bawumia tipped to win NPP flagbearer race
Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported the Global InfoAnalytics tipped Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to win the NPP’s flagbearer race with 52 per cent support.
Kennedy Agyapong followed with 17 per cent, while Dr Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Adutwum trailed with three and one per cent, per the data.
