NPP flagbearer race: Kennedy Agyapong promises business-led economic revival

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has urged Ghanaians to trust his ability to deliver economic transformation, emphasizing his track record as a successful businessman who employs over 7,000 people across multiple companies. Speaking on Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM, Mr. Agyapong criticized politicians who “speak big English but have no idea how to create businesses,” stressing that Ghana’s development depends on entrepreneurship, not rhetoric. “It is those who come and speak big, big English who have no idea about how to create businesses. They come and promise; they don’t deliver,” he said. “At least, I have over 7,000 workers from different companies.” He pledged to leverage partnerships between Ghanaian entrepreneurs and international investors to boost exports and create sustainable jobs. “I have lined up investors, and I’ll partner them with Ghanaian entrepreneurs. We’ll use that model to support local businesses,” Agyapong explained. The former Assin Central MP said such partnerships would ensure Ghanaian products meet international standards for acceptance in European and American markets. “When we have partners already in the business, they set the standards for production, making our products easily accepted abroad,” he said. Mr. Agyapong also highlighted plans to build an ethanol plant at Adidome in the Volta Region, using maize as a primary input. However, he cautioned that the high cost of local maize compared to global competitors such as Brazil and India remains a challenge. “Our maize per ton is about $250, while Brazil sells at $150,” he noted. “Until we go large scale and mechanized, we cannot compete globally.” He concluded by urging delegates to vote for an entrepreneur who understands job creation. “If Kennedy Agyapong tells you he’s going to encourage Ghanaians to build businesses and find partners for them to get markets, believe me—because I’ve done it and I continue to do it,” he said.
