The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) joined the global community on Monday to celebrate the inaugural ‘National Mentoring Day’, highlighting its dedication to future‑proofing the organization through talent development and sustainable performance. The event underscored the Authority’s belief that its greatest asset lies in its people, not just in infrastructure or technology. Speaking on behalf of Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the Executive Director of Finance & Administration, Ms. Vivian Richard‑Edet said the occasion marked an important milestone in the organization’s. commitment to nurturing future leaders and promoting knowledge transfer. She said in bolstering Nigeria’s maritime economy, the true strength of NPA lies not only in infrastructure and technology, but in the workforce. “It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the maiden edition of the National Mentoring Day celebration within the Nigerian Ports Authority. “This occasion marks an important milestone in our commitment to nurturing future leaders, promoting knowledge transfer, and institutionalizing a culture of continuous learning and professional development.” She added: “As an organization at the heart of Nigeria’s maritime economy, we recognize that our true strength lies not only in infrastructure and technology, but more importantly, in our people. “The young professionals serving here under the National Youth Service Corps are not just temporary participants; you represent the next wave of innovators, administrators, and change agents who will shape the future of the maritime sector and, by extension, our national economy.” Persecondnews reports that, observed annually on 27 October since its inception in London (2014 founding, 2016 inauguration), National Mentoring Day encourages widespread participation to give everyone equal opportunity to reach their potential. The campaign aligns with the UN’s SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by using mentorship to foster inclusion and dismantle barriers. The NPA’s celebration featured interactive sessions, panel discussions, and a mentorship fair, all aimed at strengthening internal capacity, enhancing employee engagement, and embedding sustainability into the Authority’s core operations. The event also highlighted the Authority’s strategic focus on mentoring, talent development, and sustainability as pillars for long‑term growth.
