This month, we proudly feature Father John Bagnall on the front cover, captured brilliantly by George Ledger of Consett in Focus. We can’t wait for you to read and celebrate the faces, places, and creative achievements that make Consett resilient, inspiring, and proud. From heartfelt tributes to local legends, here’s a sneak peek of what’s been happening and what you’ll find inside the November 2025 edition: Father John Bagnall: Art, Faith, and Unexpected Paths From Liverpool to Leadgate, Father John’s journey weaves together fine art, comic books, and a decade of dedication at Our Blessed Lady and St Joseph, Brooms. Inspired by icons like Bryan Ferry, John’s story proves that creativity and community can go hand in hand. His latest projects include a local exhibition and “The Bugle”, a collaborative comic for all ages. Little Italy: Celebrating Heart and Heritage Leadgate’s own Nico and Dica have transformed Little Italy into a hub of friendship, hospitality, and delicious food. Regulars and first-timers agree: this is more than a restaurant—it’s a cornerstone of community life, where good company is always on the menu. Final Chapter for Forsters Radio and TV After nearly 70 years as a local landmark, Forsters closes its doors as Simon and Louise Forster retire. The family thanks generations of staff and shoppers for decades of support and shared memories. If you have old photos or stories about Forsters, we’d love to feature them. Get in touch. Community Spotlight: November Heroes and Events Kevin Fernandes: From A-Levels to working in logistics at Lanchester Wines, Kevin’s apprenticeship journey shows the value of local talent and innovative businesses. Shotley Bridge Nursery: Ms Thornton’s “Stop, Look and Listen” song uses music and play to teach vital road safety skills, enriching nursery life and keeping children safe. The BIG Consett Directory: Dan Bowes and his team are building community with events like DH8 Foodies Week and the innovative STEEL Card—connecting, collaborating, and supporting what makes Consett tick. Willow Burn Hospice: 35 years of compassionate care, celebrated with a Pre-Loved Fashion Show organised by Olivia Kiss—a joyful blend of style, generosity and fundraising. Watts Stelling: Honoured as an Alderman after a life dedicated to Consett, grassroots football, Durham County Council, and family. Faith, Heritage, and Local Pride St Cuthbert’s Church: Shotley Bridge’s stained-glass window echoes Van Eyck’s “Holy Face”—a link to world art history, thanks to Newcastle artist William Wailes. Chopwell Woods Worship: Rev Rachael Phillips leads Magdalene Community Church, where music, faith and the beauty of nature combine for outdoor services beneath the trees. Leadgate Bowling Club marks its centenary in 2029, keeping community spirit, friendship, and fun rolling for all generations. Remembrance & Reflection: Local historian Andy Plant invites everyone for a Remembrance walk, honouring stories and memories across the village. Community Lens: Beauty All Around Local photographer Derek Cowey captures the November Supermoon—a breathtaking moment linking us all to the landscape above our rooftops.
