Nottingham Forest show true colours with kind gesture to train stabbing attack hero

Nottingham Forest have generously donated £10,000 to brave supporter Stephen Crean, who was stabbed six times during the Huntingdon train attack after heroically attempting to tackle the assailant. Crean, 61, was involved in the horrific attack whilst travelling back to south-west London following Forest's thrilling 2-2 home clash with Manchester United on Saturday. When a man launched an indiscriminate stabbing spree, courageous Crean stepped in to confront the attacker and sustained serious injuries, receiving knife wounds to his head, back and hands. Crean's remarkable bravery has earned widespread praise across the nation, prompting the creation of a Just Giving page to support him financially. Now, his beloved Forest have chipped in at the request of owner Evangelos Marinakis, who has vowed to help fund medical care for any supporters injured in the attack. As well as donating £10,000 to the fundraiser, the Premier League club have offered Crean a complimentary season ticket for the 2026-27 campaign, according to talkSPORT. Forest have additionally extended an invitation for him to travel with their squad on a private jet to a Europa League match and enjoy accommodation at the team hotel before watching the game alongside the club's officials in the directors' box. The fundraiser's modest initial goal of £500 has been smashed, amassing an extraordinary £47,561 in just three days. The Just Giving page states: "It's likely that his selfless actions saved lives. Our thought are with Steve and his family and everyone else involved in this incident. "Steve has been a regular fixture at Forest home and away games for many years... and is well known among our fanbase. This page has been set up by a group of Forest fans who know Steve, and would like to provide him with some financial support whilst he recovers from his injuries." In a statement released on Sunday, Marinakis said: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest is shocked and deeply saddened by what happened. The courage and selflessness shown by our supporters on that train represents the very best of humanity and the very best of our club's community. "We will make sure any supporter caught up in this incident receives whatever financial support they require to enable them to access the best possible medical care as they recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected." Crean recounted the horrifying experience and explained that he 'didn't have much choice' but to defend himself against the knifeman on the LNER service from Doncaster to London King's Cross. The 61-year-old said that he managed to reach a toilet on the train after the altercation before armed police arrived at Huntingdon station. "Do you want to die?" Crean remembers being asked by the attacker 'about three times'. Anthony Williams, 32, from Peterborough was charged on Monday with 10 counts of attempted murder.
