Even as a fresh low pressure area is likely to be formed over the Bay of Bengal around October 1, Andhra Pradesh may not see much rainfall activity until October 3. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, on Saturday, an upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to emerge into north Andaman Sea on September 30. Under it influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over north and central Bay of Bengal around October 1. While light to moderate showers, accompanied with lightning and thunderstorms, may prevail in the State, there is no heavy rainfall prediction for the coming week from the IMD. On Saturday, a few stations in the districts of Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Srikakulam, Kurnool received light to moderate showers. According to realtime data available with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, between 8.30 a.m. and 7 p.m., the highest of 77 mm was recorded in Komarada in Parvathipuram Manyam. In other locations, the amount of rainfall remained below 40 mm. While the IMD gave a very heavy rainfall warning for the central parts of Andhra Pradesh on Friday, the activity was concentrated in Kurnool and Nandyal districts of Rayalaseema, where the highest remained 130 mm. Inflows rising Meanwhile, due to heavy rain in upstream areas of Krishna and Godavari rivers, the flow of floodwater has been increasing steadily at the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada and Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in Dowleswaram, said A.P. State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director Prakhar Jain. As of 6 p.m. on Saturday, the inflows at the Prakasam Barrage stood at 3.83 lakh cusecs, and a first warning would be issued soon, Mr. Prakhar Jain said in a press statement. He added that by Sunday night or Monday morning, a second warning also would be issued due to rising inflows. At Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage, the first warning would continue to be in place as the inflows stand at 10.14 lakh cusecs, he said, adding that it may go up to 12 lakh cusecs on Sunday. According to the APSDMA, instructions have been issued to the affected district administrations and officials have been asked to set up control rooms.
