Indian Railways has been conducting campaigns to catch individuals travelling without tickets or with unauthorised tickets. While many are aware of the consequences of travelling without a ticket, unauthorised tickets refer to travelling in a different class than the one specified on your ticket, which can also result in penalties. However, there are specific exemptions for certain individuals who can travel in AC First Class without a ticket. Over 20 million people travel by trains daily in India, with about 5 percent of them travelling in AC classes, including Third AC, Second AC, and First AC. One notable exception involves women travelling alone in First AC. If these women do not receive an attendant seat, they might need to travel in another class. Indian Railways has a special rule in its manual for such situations. According to this rule, if a woman is travelling alone in First AC and her attendant is in another class, the attendant is permitted to sit in First AC from 8 PM to 6 AM. The attendant must also be a woman and possess a Second AC ticket. This rule does not apply to Third AC ticket holders. Even the TT (Travelling Ticket Examiner) cannot stop the attendant from sitting in First AC under this rule. Additionally, there is a rule for women travelling alone in the ladies compartment with a child under 12 years old. The child is allowed to travel in the ladies compartment, and the TT cannot prevent this either. These exemptions are crucial for women travelling alone, ensuring their comfort and safety during their journey.
