North Charleston Police Department hits goal of being fully staffed

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The North Charleston Police Department is now a fully staffed law enforcement agency.
The police department has hit its goal of 315 staffed officers.
Assistant Chief Scott Perry says that the department lost some of its staff when COVID-19 hit in 2020.
These past few months, the force has made an effort to recruit not only officers but also civilian workers.
Perry says that they showed the community the culture they cultivated, and it attracted people.
“The quality is the service to our community. And then culture, we’re changing culture, we’re developing our officers, we’re making them feel like they’re part of a family, and people want to be a part of that. Diversity brings possibilities for advancement. We have a variety of special units you can go to, and you’re just going to be developed, and we’re going to give you the tools you need to be the best officer you can be,” Perry said.
The police department says that while they offer competitive pay, they were able to recruit many people because of the environment they have created.
