Police on Monday warned against people taking the law into their own hands after a group of people attacked a female driver involved in a collision with a pedestrian in East End. A group left a nearby bar after the accident, assaulted the woman and also damaged her car. The woman was rescued by other members of the public who escorted her away from the scene until police arrived. Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown said, “There is no place for these types of actions in our community. “We do not tolerate members of the public attacking and assaulting others.” Lansdown warned that those involved in the attack on the woman would be tracked down and prosecuted. He was speaking after the incident, which left the driver and the female pedestrian with “non-life-threatening injuries”, which were treated at the hospital. The driver was also breath-tested at the hospital and returned a clear result. The incident, which involved a Honda Fit, happened on Sea View Road, near Welcome Way in the East End at about 9:30pm on Saturday, 25 Oct. Lansdown added, the vigilante assault was under investigation. He said, “Likewise, the circumstances of the collision are being investigated and any offenses found will be prosecuted, according to the law.” Anyone with information that could assist the inquiry should contact Bodden Town police station at 947 2220. Information can also be passed on through the anonymous and confidential police tip line at 949 7777 or through the service’s website. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Cayman Crime Stoppers.
