New Delhi: All commercial vehicles with BS4 engines will be barred from entering Delhi from Saturday (November 1) onwards in a bid to control rising pollution in the national capital. As per the new rule, only vehicles with the newer BS6 engines will be allowed to play in Delhi. The rule applies to all types of commercial vehicles – light, medium, or heavy – that run on BS4 engines. Delhi is currently reeling under poor air quality, with an unhealthy amount of pollutants in the air. Due to this, several people living in Delhi-NCR are complaining of uneasiness, nausea, and breathing issues. The decision has been welcomed by experts, who believe that limited vehicle movement inside Delhi could improve air quality. Experts added that it will encourage transport operators to upgrade to cleaner vehicles. However, they maintained that the success of the rule will depend on strict enforcement. This comes after the Delhi Government’s attempt to induce artificial rain through cloud seeding failed terribly.
