Nalin Atul, Secretary of the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB), said no child in society should be deprived of education or the love of parents, while launching a public awareness rally on legal adoption in Kalaburagi on Wednesday. He said that in recent times, a number of parents have abandoned their children due to personal reasons, and the government has taken measures to ensure that such children are given for adoption through legal procedures. “To prevent such incidents and to promote awareness about lawful adoption, Adoption Awareness Month is being observed across the country,” he said, calling upon citizens to help build a responsible and compassionate society. The rally, organised jointly by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Services Authority, Police Department, Women and Child Development Department, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Social Welfare Department, the District Child Protection Unit, Childline 1098/112, and various government and non-government childcare institutions, began from the District Administrative Complex and concluded at Jagat Circle. During the event, Manjula V., District Child Protection Officer, administered a pledge to students, staff, and officials on promoting adoption of children with special needs as part of the 2025–26 Special Child Adoption Programme. Children from the Don Bosco organisation performed a street play highlighting the importance of legal adoption and the need to protect children’s rights. Additional Deputy Commissioner Rayappa Hunasagi, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Sharanabasappa Kyatanal, District Child Protection Officer Basavaraj, project director Santosh Kulkarni, Women’s Police Station PSI Shreeshail, District AYUSH officer K.B. Babalad, NGO director Anandraj, compliance home director Anantaraj, Don Bosco assistant director Geeta, and students from government and aided children’s homes were present on the occasion.
