No. 4 Norris volleyball hands No. 1 Waverly its first loss in Class B showdown

WAVERLY — The Class B No. 4 Norris volleyball team defeated No. 1 Waverly in five sets Tuesday night in Waverly. The set scores were 25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13.
The Titans opened fast in the first set with a 4-0 run to grab momentum in the Vikings’ gym. Junior Alli Bornschlegl took control with six kills, while Loryn Piening added four.
The Vikings responded in the second and third sets. Hallie Lauenstein recorded 15 kills across the two, and her sister Gracie added eight.
Waverly appeared in control entering the fourth set, but Norris quickly flipped the momentum. The Titans built a 5-2 lead and stretched the margin to 10 points on five occasions. Bornschlegl tallied five kills in the set, and Kaelynn Lottman added five more.
Riding that dominant fourth-set performance, Norris carried its confidence into the fifth. The Titans entered the match 13-0 but hadn’t faced top-tier competition. They proved ready for the challenge.
Junior setter and Nebraska commit Malorie Boesiger repeatedly connected with Bornschlegl, who notched six kills in the race to 15, sealing the win for the Titans.
Norris (14-0) will host Lincoln Standing Bear at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23. Waverly (13-1) will play Grand Island Northwest at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18.
