This coming October, two of Nintendo’s best Mario games of all time are coming back, both separately and in a paired bundle, for the Switch and Switch 2. It’s a delight to see refreshed versions of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming to the newest platform, but it looks like the Switch 2 version will also be getting some unique features. One of them is mouse control support.
Nintendo itself confirmed mouse control support for the Switch 2 version of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Switch 2 upgraded games page of its Japanese website. According to the website, not only will the Switch 2 version have high resolution support, but it will also feature mouse control support.
Why mouse controls for the Super Mario Galaxy games? Well, because of the Star Bits system, most likely. In previous versions of the game, you could use the Wii Remote to scroll the screen and capture Star Bits while moving Mario around. You could also shoot Star Bits at things to activate special effects or just unique moments. That will likely be transferred to the mouse controls in the Switch 2 version of the game, as well as other opportunities.
Either way, it sounds like another fun and sensible use of Switch 2’s mouse functionality. Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 come to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 as individual games or a bundle in October 2025. As we watch for more updates and news on the bundle, stay tuned to the Switch 2 topic for updates.
