During Tuesday’s (16 September) instalment of This Morning , hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were joined by former television presenter Sarah Cawood on the sofa. Sarah, 53, is best known for fronting the BBC children’s show Live & Kicking in the 90s. Many will also recognise her from hosting Top of the Pops and MTV’s Singled Out. She also made appearances on Loose Women and Richard & Judy. She took a step back from her career after becoming a mum, having welcomed a son in 2012, followed by a daughter in 2013 with her husband. Sarah appeared on This Morning after sharing a post on social media where she admitted to feeling “lost” and had been struggling with feelings of “jealousy” after seeing others in the showbiz industry doing well. Ben asked Sarah about the anxiety and “self-doubt” she experienced while working as a TV presenter, prompting her to make a sad admission. Sarah admitted, “I had the worst imposter syndrome, but I don’t think that’s unusual. Most people that I’ve spoken to—in fact, I bet you two felt the same—are all like, ‘Should I really be here? Am I good enough to be?’ “But, I think that was amplified when all the jobs sort of fell away in the mid-noughties. I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I was just rubbish all along. ‘ It was really hard to deal with.” She went on to reveal that her television career “fading away” left her heartbroken, but she has found reasons to be grateful for it ending. “I always say that the fading away of my TV career was worse than any heartbreak I ever had from any boy. Telly broke my heart worse,” Sarah added. “But, I have had time with my children, and I am super grateful for that. And, you find other stuff to do! You just find a way through. I can’t lie, though, it is nice to be here.” Sarah explained how she’d received an outpouring of support after sharing her Instagram post, in which she’d admitted to feeling “left out” while watching her peers achieve new career milestones. She told Ben and Cat how numerous people had contacted her to reveal they felt the same, and she’d been busy conversing with social media users experiencing similar feelings. This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV1
