Nigeria’s Uyoyou Adia To Write & Direct Afrobeats Feature ‘Evi’

Nigeria's Uyoyou Adia To Write & Direct Afrobeats Feature 'Evi'

EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria’s Judith Audu Productions and Switch Visual Productions have started production on the female-led Afrobeats feature EVI.
The project, which is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Uyoyou Adia (Hey You, Casa De Novia), is slated for a Q2 2026 release. The film follows the turbulent journey of Evi-Oghene Donalds (Evi), a gifted but arrogant music star whose world collapses after her record label cuts ties without compensation. Stripped of fame, fortune and privilege, Evi must confront the harsh realities of the music industry. With the support of her loyal best friend and a troubled manager, she fights to reclaim her voice and rebuild her identity.
The collaboration marks a bold step in Nollywood storytelling, shining a dramatic light on the world of Afrobeats and the untold struggles of women in the music industry. It also highlights the rise of women leading Nollywood’s creative frontlines. Judith Audu Productions is helmed by actress and producer Judith Audu (Just Not Married, Shanty Town) while Switch Visuals Productions was founded by filmmaker and global travel entrepreneur Damilola Osikoya.
This is the second collaboration between the two companies after six-episode series Hustle. There are plans to expand their partnership in 2026. EVI was backed by CCHUB in partnership with Africa No Filter, which is supported by Gates Foundation.
“This is for every woman who’s ever been told to shrink herself just to fit in,” said Audu. “EVI is a bold, unapologetic story that proves women can rise above challenges and thrive on their own terms. We believe it will strike a chord with audiences everywhere.”
Osikoya added: “As both a travel expert and filmmaker, I have always been passionate about stories that move across borders. EVI is entertaining, but it also carries a message about truth, resilience and representation. This collaboration gives us the chance to bring that message to life in the best way possible.”
Adia said: “When I write or direct, I want stories that people can feel in their hearts. This is not just about music, but about survival and second chances. Many artists, especially women, go through these struggles in silence. With this film, we want our audience to feel inspired by Evi’s journey.”
Since its establishment in 2013, JAP has been on a mission to elevate the quality of content in the film and TV industry in Nigeria. The company’s first feature, Just Not Married, screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and won an award for Best Nigerian Film at the Eko International Film Festival 2016 and Best Actress at the Abuja International Film Festival and Best of Nollywood Film Festival.
Switch Visuals Productions looks to tell stories that transcend borders and Osikoya’s brings a unique lens to her storytelling with years of experience creating luxury and tech-driven travel experiences. The company first made its mark in music videos and commercials before moving into feature films. In 2025, she produced A Weekend Fiasco, the company’s debut feature, which stars Nollywood actress Ini Edo (Shanty Town), Alex Ekubo (Afamefuna) and Odunlade Adekola (Elesin Oba).
