Nicole Eggert weighs in on 'Baywatch' reboot & hopes for 'modern' update

Nearly two decades since “Baywatch” went off the air in 2001, the legendary lifeguard show is coming back!
Nicole Eggert, who joined season 3 as “Summer” Quinn in 1992, says she hopes the reboot series is more “modern” than when she was on the show.
“I mean, back then in the 90s, we all had like the same body type, right? And I was the curvy one. I look back now and I’m like, ‘Why did I feel so big and curvy?’ And yeah, so I just feel like I think it would have to be more athletic. It would just have to be different,” she explained to our entertainment reporter Courtney Tezeno.
Fox greenlit the for a 12-episode order set to air during the 2026-2027 broadcast season.
Eggert admits she’s “not a huge fan of all reboots,” though.
“I think it needs to stay a classic. I know that there’s talks. I know the producers are really trying to make one happen, but to me it would look very different,” she said before the network confirmed the straight-to-series order for the reboot.
The actress exited “Baywatch” after two seasons and told us it wasn’t a good fit for her because she felt typecast while growing in her acting career.
“It was like you were a ‘Baywatch’ bimbo,” Eggert, 53, said. “So that was heartbreaking for me, if I’m being completely honest. It was not where I saw my careerand so that’s why I ended up ultimately leaving the show.”
The mom of two continued, “It was very bittersweet for me because it was on one hand the number one show in the world and on the other hand, it was sort of like undermining everything I had done in my career and in my life. And the same casting directors who weren’t looking at you the same anymore.”
After Eggert stepped away from the hit show to separate herself from that image, she later returned to the franchise in 2003 for “Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding.”
Eggert keeps in touch with the cast, which previously starred Pamela Anderson, David Hasselhoff, Alexandra Paul, and was featured in the 2024 Hulu docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun,” which she also produced.
“We all keep in touch. We are one big, huge family,” the actress said. “When I joined the show, it was not a huge phenomenon. It was not a huge success yet. So that was something that I got to see happen and be a part of, which was amazing.”
