NI mum's new birth education and support business for expectant parents

A Co Down mum has opened up on her new birth education and support business for expectant parents across Northern Ireland . Mother-of-three Tamara Doyle from Leitrim said after going through her own range of birth experiences including spontaneous labour, NICU, and baby loss, she "realised just how important it is to have clear, honest support from someone who’s been there and understands the system". The 30-year-old, who is also a trained as a doula and a hypnobirthing instructor, launched 'Born Informed'. Tamara said: "Born Informed offers group birth preparation courses, ongoing support for all types of feeding, and free educational content on social media with evidence-based information, tips, and mindset tools. "I feel there’s a real lack of support for mums in the postpartum period, and I hope that helping parents make informed choices can be part of the solution by bringing more awareness and support to this stage. "My goal is to empower women to trust themselves, get excited for birth, and feel genuinely involved in their care, whatever direction their birth takes. I’ll also be collaborating with local businesses and sharing free resources to build a positive, informed birth community here in Northern Ireland." Speaking to Belfast Live, Tamara, who is mum to 4-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a 10-week-old, added: "After I had my first, he’s 4, I just found that there was a real lack of information and support for mum. There's not really much information out there… the midwives, it's not their fault, but they don't have enough time to go through everything with you. "You'll be told something and you don't really understand what it means, and there's not that much widespread information around to find out. Having a baby and afterwards - it can be so overwhelming, and quite taboo to admit that you don't understand what's going on. "A lot of the time you'll say ‘yes’ to things when you don't really know what knock-on effect that'll have. It's just having that information and really just allowing mummies to make informed decisions." Born Informed offers a birth preparation course, birth doula support, and postnatal doula support. On how she hopes her business will help parents, the Co Down woman added: "I hope it will give mums a lot more confidence. It doesn't matter what type of birth you want. A lot of people would think hypnobirthing is like a home birth or a water birth, and really quite hippy, whereas I'm like, ‘No, it doesn't matter’. "I had my kids in the hospital. It doesn't matter if you want an epidural, it doesn't matter if you want to go in and have a cesarean section, but if you're informed in the decisions that you make, you feel like you're included in the care that you're given. That ultimately will give you a more positive birth experience."
