NHL's Predators mocked on 'SNL'

Perhaps they saw this one coming. The Nashville Predators had a good sense of humor after being mocked on “Saturday Night Live” for the unfortunate naming of their recent community outreach campaign, “Preds in the Community.” A skit from the Nov. 1 episode of the popular sketch comedy show, hosted by Miles Teller, went viral after it depicted NHL players promoting the league’s annual community outreach day in July. The sketch included players from the Rangers and Los Angeles Kings — but centered on the Predators, playing off their eyebrow-raising slogan. The Predators responded to the viral clip on social media with a tongue-in-cheek reference to the season two finale of HBO’s “Euphoria.” “Wait, is this f— play about us?” they posted on X. The Nashville player, embodied by Teller, attempted to highlight the team’s charitable work but was continuously hung up on the poorly phrased script. The “Top Gun: Maverick” star read through increasingly suggestive lines, going from “I’m a Predator in my community” to “I work in hospitals to make sick kids feel touched.” The sketch reached its climax when Teller’s character listed his name, position, and team: “Chase Kid, right wing Predator.” Nashville took the jokes in stride, even utilizing the publicity — over 1.1 million views on X — to encourage viewers to support the Nashville Predators Foundation. “While you’re here,” they wrote under their initial post, “learn more and donate to support the [Nashville Predators Foundation’s] work in Nashville and middle Tennessee!” Since its inception in 1998, the 501(c)(3) charity organization has aimed to “use our distinctive set of assets to support the youth and their families in the community that we call home. The Nashville Predators Foundation has awarded over $11.2 million in grants to the local community to support educational, social, health, and cultural needs. Still, the slogan could use some work.
