NHIA Launches Staff Co-operative Credit Union

The Acting Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, has emphasised the need to prioritise the welfare of NHIA staff who make the Authority’s mission possible. He made this call during the launch of the NHIA Staff Co-operative Credit Union, held on Thursday at the NHIA Head Office in Accra. The event, which was themed “Building Financial Security through Cooperation and Trust”, marked a significant milestone in the Authority’s efforts to enhance financial well-being and foster unity among its workforce. In his address, Dr Bampoe noted that the initiative represents more than the establishment of a healthy financial institution. “As an authority dedicated to promoting financial access to healthcare for millions of Ghanaians, we need to prioritise the well-being of those who make the mission of the NHIA possible—our own staff,” he stated. He further explained that the credit union embodies unity, trust, and shared responsibility among staff, adding that it demonstrates a collective commitment to promoting savings, responsible borrowing, and long-term financial empowerment for employees. “The theme captures our vision perfectly; it reminds us that true progress is achieved when we work together and build systems that empower everyone,” he added. The NHIA’s Deputy Chief Executive for Human Resources and Administration, Mr Raphael Segkpeb, also stressed the importance of teamwork and discipline in achieving financial stability. “The theme for today’s launch reminds us that we achieve more when we work together. Financial stability is not an individual pursuit but a shared goal built on trust, discipline, and collaboration,” he said. On her part, the NHIA’s Deputy Chief Executive for Finance and Investment, Ms Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri, Esq., described the union as a reflection of the Authority’s dedication to its staff. She stated that “the NHIA Co-operative Credit Union represents more than just a financial machinery; it symbolises our commitment to one another’s well-being and success.” The Board Chair of the Ghana Co-operative Credit Unions Association (CUA), COP/Dr Otto Nyarko, expressed optimism about the future of the initiative, noting that the journey that has begun will be beneficial to all NHIA staff. As part of the ceremony, an interim leadership team was sworn in to steer the affairs of the union. The Interim Board of Directors is chaired by Sebastian Alangpulinsa, Acting Director for MRO, with Yakubu Hamza, Union Chairman, serving as Vice Chair. Akyaa Adriana Afriyie, Senior Officer at CAF, was appointed Secretary, while Christian Ahiagbah, Acting Deputy Director for Fund and Investment, takes up the role of Treasurer. Eric Owusu, Acting Deputy Director for Human Resources, was named Deputy Treasurer, and Angela Dede Namo Auch, Acting Director for Human Resources, will serve as the ex-officio member. The Interim Supervisory Committee will be led by Cynthia Okai Bentum, Acting Principal Manager for Claims Payment, with Eugene Opoku Afrifa, Deputy Director at CPC Cape Coast, and Prince Acquan, Acting HR Manager, as members. The Interim Loans Committee will be chaired by Isaac Oppong Acheampong, Legal Officer, with Mary Clarke, Principal Manager for Payroll, and Francis Kwame Nkrumah, Assistant Manager for Accounts/CR, serving as members. The ceremony was attended by key partners and stakeholders, including Mr Richard Kofi Hotor, Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Ghana Co-operative Credit Unions Association (CUA); Ms Catherine Tuffuor, representative from the Department of Co-operatives (Accra Metro); and Mr Richard Mangabel, Chief Executive of Richbell Consult.
