NFL Week 9 early predictions: Best bets, lines to get ahead on

Week 8 of the NFL season featured an action-packed slate full of blowouts and dominant performances. Last week, the call on Patriots -7 against the Browns proved true. Drake Maye’s impressive quarterback play continued, and Mike Vrabel’s group outscored Cleveland by 17 points in the second half en route to a 32-13 victory. However, a few optimistic injury updates on Lamar Jackson fooled us and apparently other bettors into backing a shootout for the Ravens-Bears contest. Baltimore still emerged with the win, 30-16, but the point total did not cover an original line of 49.5. Rest assured, today is a new day. Buckle up, folks — we get to do it again. Let’s take a look at some lines that stand out to us for Week 9. Packers -12.5 vs. Panthers It’s hard to find a team playing better football than Matt LaFleur’s group at the moment. Quarterback Jordan Love put on a show Sunday night against his mentor, Aaron Rodgers, completing 29-of-37 passes for 360 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. At one point, Love completed 20 consecutive passes. Defensive anchor Micah Parsons had one sack, Rashan Gary followed suit with two of his own and the Green Bay defense forced a fumble in a statement second-half outing. If not for Chris Boswell’s foot, the Steelers’ point total would have finished in the teens. The Packers covered the -3 spread on the road, defeating Pittsburgh 35-25. It was a rough season debut for veteran play-caller Andy Dalton as he and the offense struggled mightily in the absence of Bryce Young. The Panthers defense also allowed running back James Cook to have a career-best 216 yards rushing, along with two touchdowns. If Young’s ankle injury keeps him sidelined, I foresee this line of 12.5 going higher. The Bills convincingly defeated Carolina 40-9 last week, and it’s clear Young covers a lot of issues in Dave Canales’ offense. The Panthers do hold a respectable 4-4 record, but I don’t trust Dalton, especially with Parsons seemingly growing more comfortable with this Packers defense. Betting on the NFL? Now the 49ers come into town and will try their hand against rookie sensation Jaxson Dart. The Ole Miss product is 2-0 at home as a starter, with huge upset wins over the Chargers and aforementioned Eagles. Dart plays with a certain confidence at MetLife, posting a rushing line of 24 carries, 115 yards, and 2 TDs. More importantly, he’s yet to turn the ball over at home. The 49ers’ roster has been decimated by the injury bug, with All-Pros Fred Warner and Nick Bosa on injured reserve. Their pass rush was absent last week against Houston, allowing CJ Stroud to throw a season-high 318 passing yards. Offensively, quarterback Brock Purdy has only played in two games, and pass catchers Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall remain sidelined. George Kittle missed nearly a month before returning in Week 7. Although Purdy’s status to play is not yet determined, if Mac Jones is under center, I have confidence the Giants can cover +2 and even on the moneyline. After a 3-0 start, Jones has lost two of three games as starter. The Giants’ defensive front of Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Keyvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter is poised for a breakout opposite a suspect 49ers offensive line.
