NFL Week 9 Consensus Power Rankings: Texans & Ravens Rise, Steelers & Falcons Drop, Colts & Chiefs Continue to Dominate

Every week, outlets from across the world release their own version of NFL power rankings. Everyone thinks they’re right, and yet, nobody ever agrees on the perfect ranking for all 32 teams. That’s why we at EssentiallySports release UberRankings, which takes rankings from 10 different outlets and compile them into one consensus ranking. In addition to the ES power rankings, we’ve compiled each team’s ranking from Yahoo, Bleacher Report, ESPN, NFL.com, Sports Illustrated, FOX, CBS, Pro Football Talk, and the New York Times to give you a full look at the range of NFL experts’ opinions on where your team stands in the bigger picture. Here are the Week 9 UberRankings. ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this ad 32. Tennessee Titans (1-7) UberRank: 32 ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this ad Last Week: 30.4 Change: Down 1.6 Read Top Stories First From EssentiallySports Click here and check box next to EssentiallySports The Tennessee Titans got ran through by the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. With the New York Jets claiming their first win, the Titans fall down into the bottom spot. All 10 outlets had the Titans ranked dead last this week. ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this ad 31. New York Jets (1-7) UberRank: 30.3 Last Week: 32 Change: Up 1.7 Speaking of the Jets, they rose one spot in the UberRankings after their first win of the season. They were ranked as high as No. 29 by three different outlets, and as low as 31 by six different outlets. Only the New York Times had them in the middle at No. 30. 30. New Orleans Saints (1-7) UberRank: 30.1 Last Week: 28.5 Change: Down 1.6 The New Orleans Saints have been absolutely helpless the last two weeks, and now they’re making a quarterback change, going to second-round rookie Tyler Shough. Seven outlets had the Saints at No. 30, but Sports Illustrated had them the highest at No. 29. 29. Las Vegas Raiders (2-5) UberRank: 28.5 Last Week: 28.4 Change: Up 0.1 The Las Vegas Raiders had a bye in Week 8 and stayed in pretty much the exact some spot. They were ranked as high as No. 25 by CBS, and as low as No. 31 by EssentiallySports and FOX. 28. Cleveland Browns (2-6) UberRank: 27.6 Last Week: 26.5 Change: Down 1.1 The Cleveland Browns were ran out of town by the New England Patriots, but they weren’t punished too hard for the blowout loss, dropping 1.1 spots. They peaked as high as No. 26 by PFT and fell as low as No. 30 by Sports Illustrated. 27. Miami Dolphins (2-6) UberRank: 27.4 Last Week: 30.3 Change: Up 2.9 The Miami Dolphins earned a massive win over the Atlanta Falcons, and promptly rose almost three spots this week. ESPN and FOX both had the Dolphins ranked No. 25, but four outlets had them as far down as No. 29. Weirdly, nobody had them at No. 27. 26. New York Giants (2-6) UberRank: 26 Last Week: 25 Change: Down 1 The New York Giants lost by 18 to the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend, and they fell 1.0 places because of it. Four outlets, including us at EssentiallySports, had them at No. 25, but ESPN had them the lowest at No. 28. 25. Arizona Cardinals (2-5) UberRank: 25.3 Last Week: 25.8 Change: Up 0.5 The Arizona Cardinals were on a bye this week, and they also stayed in pretty much the exact same spot. They peaked at No. 24 on three outlets, but EssentiallySports had them the lowest at No. 28. 24. Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) UberRank: 23.7 Last Week: 22.7 Change: Down 1 The Cincinnati Bengals suffered an embarrassing loss to the winless Jets last week, but they only fell 1.0 spots because of it. Sports Illustrated still believes they’re a good team, ranking them all the way up at No. 19, but outlets such as FOX and CBS have their doubts, ranking them at No. 26 and No. 27 respectively. 23. Carolina Panthers (4-4) UberRank: 20.8 Last Week: 19.6 Change: Down 1.2 We all knew the Carolina Panthers were fraudulent, and this week proved it. The Buffalo Bills blew them out, 40-9, and they fell 1.2 spots after the loss. NYT had the Panthers all the way up at 18, but CBS, Sports Illustrated and Yahoo had them down at No. 23. 22. Atlanta Falcons (3-4) UberRank: 20.8 Last Week: 17.7 Change: Down 3.1 The Falcons and Panthers were tied with an UberRank of 20.8, but since the Falcons were ranked higher last week, they stay right ahead of their NFC South rivals. They were ranked as high as No. 18 by PFT and FOX while ESPN had them all the way down at No. 26, seriously tanking their ranking. Only two other outlets had them below No. 20. 21. Washington Commanders (3-5) UberRank: 20.7 Last Week: 19.2 Change: Down 1.5 The Washington Commanders have been one of the most disappointing teams of the season, and without Jayden Daniels, they don’t have much life. NFL.com and Bleacher Report were the nicest to them, ranking them at No. 18, while PFT was a bit more hard, ranking them down at No. 24. 20. Minnesota Vikings (3-4) UberRank: 20.5 Last Week: 20 Change: Down 0.5 The Minnesota Vikings are another very disappointing team, but they’re set to get J.J. McCarthy back this week, which should help them out. For some reason, CBS has them all the way up at No. 15, but most had them in the 20-22 range. 19. Baltimore Ravens (2-5) UberRank: 20.1 Last Week: 23.8 Change: Up 3.7 The Baltimore Ravens earned a huge win this week over the Chicago Bears, and now they’re set to get Lamar Jackson back. Things are looking up in Baltimore, and so is their UberRanking. Yahoo and Sports Illustrated have the Ravens up at No. 14 and No. 15 respectively, but six outlets have them at No. 22 or lower with concerns about their defense. 18. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-3) UberRank: 19.2 Last Week: 13.3 Change: Down 5.9 The Pittsburgh Steelers were our biggest fallers after they got their butts whooped by the Green Bay Packers. They dropped 5.9 spots, but the NYT still has them at No. 14. Others such as NFL.com and Sports Illustrated seem to have lost faith in Mike Tomlin’s squad, putting them all the way down at No. 22. 17. Houston Texans (3-4) UberRank: 16.3 Last Week: 22 Change: Up 5.7 While the Steelers were our biggest fallers, the Houston Texans were our biggest risers after they beat the San Francisco 49ers pretty handily. They were pretty easy to rank, with nine of the 10 outlets having them between No. 14 and No. 17. Only Yahoo disagreed, placing them at No. 18. 16. Dallas Cowboys (3-4-1) UberRank: 15.8 Last Week: 17.4 Change: Up 1.6 I think the Dallas Cowboys are the only team in the NFL that could lose by 20 and rise 1.6 places…Outlets such as ESPN and FOX let their Cowboys bias show, placing them at No. 13, while Yahoo and CBS were much more harsh, putting them down at No. 19 and No. 18 respectively. 15. Chicago Bears (4-4) UberRank: 15.8 Last Week: 14 Change: Down 1.8 The Bears suffered a disappointing loss to the Ravens, but still have everything in front of them. They were fairly consistent among the 10 outlets we use to compile the UberRankings. Nine of the 10 had them land somewhere between No. 15 and No. 17. 14. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-3) UberRank: 15.5 Last Week: 17.1 Change: Up 1.6 Despite being on a bye, the Jacksonville Jaguars rose 1.6 spots this week due to other movement around them. They were placed as high as No. 13 by CBS and PFT, and as low as 20 by Sports Illustrated. 13. San Francisco 49ers (5-3) UberRank: 13.2 Last Week: 10.4 Change: Down 2.8 The 49ers dropped pretty significantly after their loss to the Texans. The Mac Jones magic is gone, and their defense looks a bit lost without Fred Warner. Most of the outlets agreed on their ranking, placing them between No. 12 and No. 13, but CBS and PFT had them at No. 16 and No. 15 respectively. 12. Los Angeles Chargers (5-3) UberRank: 12.6 Last Week: 15.8 Change: Up 3.2 The Los Angeles Chargers were one of the biggest risers of the week after dominating the Vikings on TNF. They rose 3.2 spots, and every single outlet ranked them between No. 12 and No. 15 this week. In fact, seven of the 10 had them at No. 12 exactly. 11. New England Patriots (6-2) UberRank: 9.9 Last Week: 11.2 Change: Up 1.3 The Patriots continue to slowly but surely rise in the UberRankings, finding themselves with a 9.9 rank this week. They had a pretty consistent ranking, with all 10 outlets placing them between No. 9 and No. 11. 10. Buffalo Bills (5-2) UberRank: 8.1 Last Week: 8.3 Change: Up 0.2 It feels wrong for the Bills to rise just 0.2 after a 40-9 victory, but that just shows you how little people think of the Panthers, despite their record. The Bills’ rankings were much more diverse, with ESPN having them all the way up at No. 4, and PFT having them down at No. 11. 9. Seattle Seahawks (5-2) UberRank: 7.9 Last Week: 7.3 Change: Down 0.6 I was surprised to see the Seattle Seahawks this low, but it’s so tight at the top. Sports Illustrated and EssentiallySports gave them a ton of respect, putting them at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, but ESPN and Bleacher Report still don’t quite believe in them, placing them at No. 11. 8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-2) UberRank: 7.7 Last Week: 6.4 Change: Down 1.3 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell 1.3 places despite a 20-point victory this week. Essentially Sports and Yahoo ranked them as low as No. 11, while ESPN, FOX and CBS had them as high as No. 5. 7. Denver Broncos (6-2) UberRank: 7.5 Last Week: 8.9 Change: Up 1.4 After a dominating win over the Cowboys, the Broncos rose 1.4 spots. Sports Illustrated gave Denver a ton of respect, ranking them No. 4, but most outlets had them in the 7-10 range. Only EssentiallySports and Yahoo nailed their No. 7 ranking. 6. Philadelphia Eagles (6-2) UberRank: 5.8 Last Week: 6.2 Change: Up 0.4 After a couple poor performances, the Eagles have turned things around and nearly find themselves back inside the top five. ESPN and NYT have them ranked all the way up at No. 3, but Sports Illustrated and CBS still have their doubts, ranking them at No. 9 and No. 11 respectively. 5. Los Angeles Rams (5-2) UberRank: 5.6 Last Week: 5.1 Change: Down 0.5 The Los Angeles Rams were another team on a bye who stayed in relatively the same place. FOX ranked them as their No. 2 team in the league, but for some reason, Yahoo ranked them all the way down at No. 10. Nobody else had them lower than No. 8. 4. Green Bay Packers (5-1-1) UberRank: 5.2 Last Week: 6.2 Change: Up 1 The Packers rose 1.0 places in the new UberRankings after decimating the Steelers in the second half. FOX and CBS were the highest on them, putting them at No. 3, but we at EssentiallySports had them down at No. 8. 3. Kansas City Chiefs (5-3) UberRank: 3.7 Last Week: 4.1 Change: Up 0.4 The Kansas City Chiefs may have three losses on their record, but the consensus is that they’re a top three team in the league. Yahoo and Sports Illustrated had them as their No. 1 ranked team while FOX and PFT had them down at No. 8, which is just insane to me. 2. Detroit Lions (5-2) UberRank: 2.9 Last Week: 2.4 Change: Down 0.5 After their bye, the Detroit Lions remain as the second-highest ranked team according to the UberRankings. NFL.com and FOX both have them as their No. 1 ranked team, but two outlets – Sports Illustrated and Bleacher Report – had them at No. 6 this week. 1. Indianapolis Colts (7-1) UberRank: 1.7 Last Week: 2 Change: Up 0.3 Occupying the top spot in the UberRankings for the second consecutive week is the Colts. They have been absolutely dominant and are the only one-loss team in the league (outside of the Packers, but they have a tie on their record). Six of the 10 outlets had them at No. 1 this week, but FOX somehow had them all the way down at No. 4.
