DENVER (KDVR) — There are only a few hours left before the NFL's trade deadline shuts down at 2 p.m. The Denver Broncos sit atop the NFL with the joint-best record of 7-2, but could a team with Super Bowl aspirations move some pieces to sharpen up the squad? If rumors around the NFL media scene are true, then the Broncos could be the team that makes a deadline-day trade that will make jaws drop around the league. According to Bleacher Report's NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Broncos are one of the teams he expects to make a "holy crap" trade. "We'll see if any deals get done, but the two teams I'm watching today for a potential 'holy crap' trade are the #Seahawks and #Broncos," Schultz said in a post on X. Sports Illustrated reports that the Broncos are completely invested in the team's defense, and are also content with a much-improved running game in comparison to years past but a late trade might occur to bring in a tight end or wide receiver to make the Broncos' passing game more dynamic. There are several players the Broncos are supposedly keeping an eye on. The Dolphins are blowing up their team and have basically committed to a rebuild, with their record standing at 2-7 so far this season. Contenders are looking at the Dolphins to see if they can poach any talent that could carry them over the finish line in exchange for some hope for the future. The Broncos are reportedly interested in wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, who is the most likely trade candidate for the team, according to Sports Illustrated. Waddle was selected No. 6 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has quickly proven himself in the NFL, going for over 1,000 receiving yards in three of his first four seasons. The Dolphins initially said that Waddle would be going nowhere this year, but as the trade deadline approached, the team's stance seemed to soften a bit since GM Chris Grier parted ways with the team on Friday, and now teams are ringing the Dolphins' line to find a fair price for Waddle. The Broncos and the New York Giants are among the teams listed by Bleacher Report as the most interested. The Dolphins have reportedly put a price tag of a first-round draft pick and some change for Waddle. The Broncos were reported to have kept an eye on Garrett Wilson, but the Jets' stance seems to be that Wilson is going absolutely nowhere and is an integral part of the team's long-term future. Wilson has produced 1,000 receiving yards in every season of his professional career, which started in 2022 and was highlighted by winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in the same season. If a trade were to happen, the Cleveland Browns seem to lead the pack, according to Sports Illustrated. The Saints are one of the teams that are actively trying to move some players ahead of the trade deadline, and the Broncos have been linked with two of their players. The first is Chris Olave, a young wide receiver who holds the all-time receiving touchdown record at Ohio State. He is considered an elite route runner and is projected to surpass 1,000 receiving yards this season. Olave's name has floated around the camp of the Buffalo Bills. The second of the Saints' receivers that teams seem to believe are available ahead of the trade deadline, Shaheed is having a fantastic season, and many teams will be looking to acquire his talents amid his excellent form. Shaheed already has 44 catches for 499 yards this season. Originally an undrafted free agent, he is having the best season of his career, and scouts around the league have taken notice. One of the teams that seems to be most interested in adding him to its receiving room is the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's hard to determine if the Broncos are actually serious about making a big trade ahead of 2 p.m. The only source for the claims is the murmurs and rumors picked up by NFL insiders, who typically have a good track record for making the right calls. The Broncos are having a great season, and it is difficult to decide if a trade is worth it because it could blow up the whole operation that has been so effective this year. If the team does think a new player can take them over the top without having to sacrifice too much in return, then a new face could be making an appearance in Denver soon.
