Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jaire Alexander is stepping away from the NFL, according to reports. Alexander, 28, hasn’t officially retired, but will “try to focus on getting himself right physically and mentally before deciding on his future,” Fox Sports Jay Glazer first reported. The Eagles placed Alexander on the reserve/retired list on Wednesday. Alexander’s hiatus from football comes just over a week after he was traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Eagles on Nov. 1. The Eagles traded a 2026 sixth-round draft pick in exchange for Alexander and a seventh-round pick. “I think when you talk about [him] still [being] a young guy, knowing where his health is at now, feeling healthy, feeling good, we felt like the risk was worth the reward with him,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said after the trade. Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowler, signed with Baltimore in June on a one-year contract worth up to $6 million. He recorded five tackles in two games played for the Ravens before being traded. Prior to Baltimore, Alexander played his first seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers from 2018-24. He earned both of his Pro Bowl selections with the Packers in 2020 and 2022, and also earned Second Team All-Pro honors each of those seasons. However, injuries riddled the end of his tenure in Green Bay as Alexander played in only 14 games in his final two seasons with the Packers. “I think when you talk about [him] still [being] a young guy, knowing where his health is at now, feeling healthy, feeling good, we felt like the risk was worth the reward with him,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said after acquiring Alexander.
