When it comes to Philadelphia Eagles head of security Dom “Big Dom” Disandro, if you’re seeing his name in the headlines it probably means he’s run afoul of NFL higher ups.
According to multiple reports, Big Dom was recently fined $75,000 by the NFL for texting from the Eagles bench during a preseason game.
“Eagles Head of Security Dom ‘Big Dom’ DiSandro has been fined $75K for texting from the Eagles bench area during a preseason game,” Bleacher Report wrote on its official X account on September 21. “Philly’s appeal arguing that DiSandro only had one foot in their bench area was denied.”
It’s not the first time Big Dom, who has become a cult icon in Philadelphia, has run afoul of the NFL. In 2023, he was fined $100,000 and banned from the Eagles sideline for the rest of the season.
“The NFL has banned Eagles security chief Dom DiSandro from being on the sideline for the remainder of the regular season after he was ejected from a game earlier this month for a scuffle with 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw, two people familiar with the league’s decision told The Associated Press on Saturday,” The AP’s Rob Maadi wrote in December 2023.
DiSandro’s Tenure Goes Back Almost 30 Years
Big Dom got his start with the Eagles in 1997 as a scout for the Big East Conference and worked his way up through the ranks, then became assistant to the chief security officer in 1999.
He was promoted to chief security officer/senior advisor to the general manager in 2011 and added director of gameday operations to his title in 2024.
While DiSandro’s role with the team is often up for debate — he’s been described as a “fixer” multiple times — what’s not up for debate is the success the team has had with him in their employ.
Since DiSandro took over as chief security officer, the South Philadelphia native has worked behind the scenes for a pair of Super Bowl championship teams and another Super Bowl appearance.
Internet Largely Responsible For Big Dom’s Fame
Big Dom’s fame has largely come from how the internet reacts to his various travails, as the man himself has never given an interview on the record.
It’s one of those situations where you either love him or hate him.
“Can we agree, as a society, to just be done with Big Dom?” X user Matt From Minnesota wrote on September 21. “I’ve had enough Big Dom.”
“I know this is a hot take but ‘Big Dom’ is a loser,” X user Walker Brown wrote. “No need for this clown to wear a headset during the games.”
Big Dom’s main job the last few years seems to have been keeping Philadelphia’s equally hotheaded head coach, Nick Sirianni, out of harm’s way during games.
During halftime of the Eagles’ Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2, Fox Sports aired a video of Sirianni having to be separated from a group of game officials by Big Dom.
