NFL Announces Punishment Decision After Baker Mayfield Incident

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was less than pleased during the team’s loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 7 and let referee John Hussey know it late in the 24-9 loss. Mayfield admitted he was upset about a number of calls including when he thought the Lions should have been flagged for holding and later when a replay review that initially upheld a Buccaneers first down was overruled and later called short. “A third down defensive holding call that wasn’t called, and also I’m still pretty damn confused about the double review,” Mayfield said after the game. “A lot of things in that game that were a little questionable. “A lot of frustration at the end of that. It might be displaced onto John Hussey in the moment, but I work my ass off and I put a lot into this game, so when things I don’t seem are deemed fair, I’m gonna let somebody know.” More NFL: Chiefs’ Final Week 8 Injury Report Doesn’t Bode Well for Patrick Mahomes NFL Referee Land Clark (130) talks with Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) before the regular season game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons on September 07, 2025 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA.
