NFL's Roger Goodell Supports Bad Bunny Super Bowl Halftime Show

Key Points NFL supports Bad Bunny as Super Bowl halftime performer despite some public petitioning. Roger Goodell: “He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world.” Shakira and others publicly endorse Bad Bunny’s selection, emphasizing cultural significance. It sounds like Bad Bunny is still very much the upcoming Super Bowl halftime performer, even if certain groups are petitioning otherwise. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is continuing to speak out in support of the Puerto Rican superstar, 31, and reaffirm the league’s commitment to welcoming him to the stage. “He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world. That’s what we try to achieve. It’s an important stage for us. It’s an important element to the entertainment value, and it’s carefully thought through,” Goodell, 66, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview article published Wednesday, Oct. 22. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback and criticism. It’s pretty hard to do.” The commissioner added, “We’re confident it’s going to be a good show. He understands the platform that he is on, and I think it’s going to be exciting and uniting moment.” And let’s not forget that halftime performers are often joined by surprise guests on stage. “I am not saying that there won’t be additional talent that might be involved, but that’s always the way it works,” Goodell also told THR. When Bad Bunny was selected as the official performer last month, the award-winning rapper released a statement at the time to commemorate the decision, as THR noted. “What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown,” he said. “This is for my people, my culture and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el Halftime Show Del Super Bowl.” This week, fellow icon Shakira took time to voice her support for Bad Bunny’s upcoming performance.
