The Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture has confirmed the of Traditional Authority (T/A) Matola of Balaka District.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the late chief, born Rosmos Malehe, passed away on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, where he was receiving treatment.

The late T/A Matola was born on 9th October 1952 and was officially installed as Traditional Authority on 19th May 2019.

He is survived by a wife and six children.

Meanwhile, Balaka District Council spokesperson Mary Makhiringa has, describing the late chief’s passing as a great loss to the district and the nation at large.

According to the Ministry, the programme for the burial of the departed chief will be announced in due course.
