Newcastle's impressive form continues as they claim a narrow victory over Fulham, making it two wins in a row. The Cottagers came into the game following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Premier League leaders, Arsenal, last weekend. They were looking to get back to winning ways on their trip to St James Park, but instead suffered a 2-1 defeat. As it happened Joelinton returned to the starting lineup as Newcastle made one change for the visit of Fulham. Fulham manager Marco Silva, on the other hand, made six changes. Kenny Tete, Issa Diop, Calvin Bassey, Emile Smith Rowe and Adama Traore all returned to the starting line-up. Newcastle were gifted the first goal in the 18th minute after Calvin Bassey took too long on the ball and Jacob Murphy sneaked in to steal the ball and put the ball past Bernd Leno. The home side maintained the lead until the half-time whistle. However, in the second half, they were pegged back. Fulham got the equaliser after Raul Jimenez’s shot struck the crossbar before the ball bounced up to Sasa Lukic, who beat Sven Botman to head home. With the game coming to a close, Newcastle took the lead, with Bruno Guimaraes winning it at the death of the game. William Osula took a shot from the edge of the box and all Leno could do was parry it into the path of Guimaraes, who poked it in from close range. The goal sealed the victory for Newcastle, who during the week thrashed Benfica 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League.
