Newcastle vs Arsenal LIVE: Premier League latest score and confirmed lineups

Newcastle host the Gunners on Tyneside

Newcastle United host Arsenal in a huge Premier League showdown on Tyneside this afternoon.

Liverpool’s defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday means the Gunners can move to back within two points of the summit with a victory this afternoon.

Sat in 15th having collected just one win in their opening five games, Newcastle’s season badly needs a jumpstart.

Eddie Howe’s side can perhaps take inspiration from their performances against Arsenal last season, beating them home and away to reach the Carabao Cup final having also taken care of business in this fixture last November.

Metro’s LIVE matchday blog will bring you all the build-up, confirmed team news and starting XIs, goal updates and minute-by-minute coverage.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of today’s match, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: No, [Newcastle are not completely different without Alexander Isak], because he wasn’t playing against Barcelona and what could have been in the first 30 or 40 minutes could be very different to the result.‘I always praise the work that Eddie and the coaching staff have done there and the way they have managed to create such an atmosphere, especially at home, and a very clear identity of playing football, they make it really difficult. ‘We know the test, we know that we’re going to have to be much more efficient than we’ve been lately when we played up there to win the game, and we’re going to work on that.’
