New York Jets Could Make Shocking Justin Fields Move

When the New York Jets made the decision to move on from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, replacing him didn’t take long. Quickly, the front office made the move to sign Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract in free agency. Fields, who is just 26 years old, was a player the Jets felt could be a long-term option. Unfortunately, to begin the 2025 NFL season, that has not been the case. He has started off his tenure in New York on the wrong foot. Through the first seven games of the year, the team has gone 0-7. That has led to the Jets likely making the decision to bench Fields heading into Week 8. Tyrod Taylor is expected to take over as the team’s starter. Is it possible the Jets could consider trading him before the upcoming trade deadline? Justin Fields #7 of the New York Jets looks on prior to an NFL football game against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on September 29, 2025 in Miami Gardens, Florida. That is exactly what one team insider has suggested. Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic opened up about the possible option of trading Fields before the deadline. He seems to be in favor of the idea. “Justin Fields does seem like someone who generally tries to avoid controversy, but I don’t think he has ever been confronted with this kind of situation. I was actually thinking, like I don’t know, I feel like there are teams that could actually, the [Baltimore] Ravens might be better off with Justin Fields than Cooper Rush at quarterback, frankly,” Rosenblatt wrote. “Like, for a team that has an offense built around a mobile quarterback, like, why not go and trade for Justin Fields? Pay him $10 million next year, and however much they owe him the rest of this year. That’s a thought I had today.” So far this season, Fields has played in six games for New York. He has completed 63.7 percent of his pass attempts for 845 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. In addition, he has picked up 257 yards and three more touchdowns on the ground. It’s possible that the Jets will simply keep Fields around for the rest of the season. Fields might find his way back onto the field later on in the year.
