The newly commissioned vessel, MV IBK, is departing Port Moresby for its maiden trip to Ihu, Baimuru and Kikori in the Gulf Province today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
The vessel’s name, “IBK”, is an acronym for Ihu, Baimuru and Kikori, the three local-level government areas in the Gulf Province of Papua New Guinea.
The landing craft barge, which was purchased in mid-2025 by the Kikori District Development Authority (DDA), aims to improve sea transport for both passengers and cargo.
This includes bringing market produce between Kikori, Port Moresby, and other parts of the Gulf Province.
Onboard for the inaugural trip are Kikori MP Soroi Marepo Eoe, with staff and a few guests.
