The regional association Condenados al Bordillo (Breaking the Curb ) has launched a new edition of its programme “Chasing Inclusion through Adapted Sport” in Denia, an initiative aimed at supporting people with disabilities into the workforce by involving them in adapted sport projects. The year-long programme, based at IES Maria Ibars, offers participants professional experience in the sports sector, combining training, practical work, and ongoing support. This edition has seen six people with disabilities recruited, supported by a special education teacher, three graduates in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, and several sports instructors. Activities take place mainly at Denia’s Municipal School of Adapted Sport, as well as through other association-led projects such as “We Can Do It”, “We Want to Go Out”, “Enjoying the Summer”, “We Are Equal, We Are Different”, and “Tapis Workshops”. These initiatives promote social and professional inclusion through physical activity, directly enhancing participants’ autonomy and self-esteem. Supported by Denia Town Hall, through the Sports and Social Affairs departments One standout participant is Mar, a volunteer and association member with cerebral palsy, who now carries out administrative tasks and speaks at awareness-raising events. Her involvement highlights how workplace inclusion helps normalise disability within society. The project is supported by Denia Town Hall, through the Sports and Social Affairs departments —the latter also providing a van to transport participants— along with financial backing from Pfizer and the Adecco Foundation, plus a number of private collaborators. Pfizer, which has supported the programme since 2013, has donated €23,000 this year via the Adecco Foundation, helping fund the employment of staff involved in the various projects. New initiatives that transform lives Thanks to this institutional and private support, Condenados al Bordillo continues to develop initiatives that transform lives and encourage social and professional inclusion through sport. Founded in July 2001, the association has always focused on developing and running projects to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities. Today, it is well-established in the Costa Blanca region of Alicante, running a series of initiatives designed to maximise participants’ development potential in as normalised an environment as possible. Participation is open to everyone, regardless of ability, age, or gender, and all activities are fully adapted to the skills and capacities of those involved.
