Newly released emails from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate, handed over to Congress on Wednesday, suggest the disgraced financier ended his friendship with former President Bill Clinton because he believed Clinton was dishonest. In a January 23, 2016, email, Epstein wrote that Clinton had “sworn, with whole-hearted conviction” something to him, only to contradict himself weeks earlier, as per New York Post report. A spokesperson for Clinton said, “President Clinton knew nothing about Epstein’s heinous crimes and hadn’t spoken to him in twenty years. Now here it is in black and white.” Who Else Was Involved In Epstein’s Emails? The emails also reveal Epstein’s correspondence with Kathryn Ruemmler, former White House counsel under President Barack Obama, who discussed politics with Epstein before the 2016 election, as per Wall Street Journal report. Ruemmler, now Chief Legal Officer at Goldman Sachs, reportedly referred to another individual as “very close to being a psychopath” in the same email threads, but her comments were not about Clinton. How Close Were Clinton And Epstein? Clinton and Epstein’s connections date back to the early 1990s. Epstein donated to Clinton’s presidential campaign and Hillary Clinton’s Senate campaign, and he visited the White House multiple times. Clinton also flew on Epstein’s private jet, often called the “Lolita Express,” and visited Epstein’s New York apartment, though a spokesperson says he never went to Epstein’s private island, Little St. James. Despite these ties, Clinton has repeatedly said that his friendship with Epstein ended long before Epstein’s criminal actions came to light and that he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes against young women. Epstein kept a painting of Clinton in a blue dress in his Upper East Side mansion, referencing Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky scandal. Some former aides and Epstein accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre claimed Clinton visited Little St James and attended a dinner with young women, though Giuffre has retracted parts of her allegations in the past. The House Oversight Committee has sub-poenaed the Clintons over the summer for information related to Epstein but they have not yet appeared. The emails, part of a 20,000-page document trove, add to the ongoing scrutiny of Epstein’s connections with powerful figures.
