Jaelan Phillips called getting traded to the Philadelphia Eagles the greatest thing that’s ever happened him, but that may soon change. Phillips opened up about getting traded from the Miami Dolphins to the reigning Super Bowl champions and about how he is excited to get set up in the City of Brotherly Love with his fiancee Samantha, who is expecting a baby boy. Phillips, of course, was the Eagles’ prize acquisition at the trade deadline Tuesday. Philadelphia sent a third-round pick to Miami for the EDGE rusher who has three sacks and 25 tackles in nine games this season. Phillips is expected to make his Eagles debut Monday night when they take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Jalen Phillips: Getting Traded Was ‘Literally The Greatest Thing That’s Happened To Me’ It’s rare to hear a person rave about a job change that moves them from South Florida to Philadelphia, but Phillips raved about moving from the Dolphins to the Eagles. “This is literally the greatest thing that’s happened to me,” Phillips said. “The guys are awesome. Everyone’s been super-welcoming. I love the environment here. I love the vibes here.” Of course, the Dolphins are 2-7 and in third place in the AFC East — just a game ahead of the woeful New York Jets. The Eagles have played in the Super Bowl in two of the past three seasons and are the favorites to represent the NFC again this year while sitting atop the NFC East at 6-2 after eight games. But Phillips went into greater detail about why he is looking to settle down roots with his family and how the family-oriented culture set up by coach Nick Sirianni, GM Howie Roseman, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and the veteran-laden Eagles is conducive to where he is at. “I just think it’s a pivotal point in my life and my career,” Phillips said. “I have a baby coming, a little boy on the way. You know, contract year next year, I’m taking it day by day. “I just truly feel like this is an amazing opportunity for me to come in,” Phillips said. “I’m just grateful to be able to do whatever I can to help the team too.” Jaelan Phillips Can Really Help The Eagles The Eagles may be flying high atop their division, but a quick look under the hood reveals they are not playing like the most dominant team right now. Philadelphia has just a plus-23 point differential despite being four games over .500, and it has accrued only 14 sacks this season. The Eagles, of course, dominated in the NFC playoffs and won Super Bowl LIX with their game-wrecking pass rush, and that has not yet revealed itself in 2026. But Phillips was brought in to fix that. He has 26 sacks in 55 career games since being chosen as a first-round pick from UCLA in the 2021 draft, and he is ready to take the bull by the horns and help the Eagles. “Incredibly talented team, winning culture, a great defense, great defensive scheme, great defensive front, great DBs,” Phillips said. “I think everything is just matching up for me to come in and try to be as productive as possible.”
