'Never seen anything like it' - YouTuber BeardMeatsFood accepts monster hot dog dare in North Wales

A YouTuber famed for conquering monster piles of food admitted his latest challenge on the North Wales coast was harder than expected. Adam Moran, better known as BeardMeatsFood, was in the region to take on a mammoth meal no one has yet completed.

Last year the Seagull Café in Towyn, Conwy, launched a menu of epic dishes and dared its customers to complete them within set time limits. Since then people of all shapes and sizes have tackled giant breakfasts, 32oz steaks and other Desperate Dan-sized meals.

Some starve themselves before sitting down to eat trayfuls of food that look appetising but become belt-busting burdens. Until yesterday (Tuesday, September 16), 78 customers had taken the challenges and just 10 had succeeded. Victors get the meal free along with a Seagull Café T-shirt.

One of the dishes remained undefeated, however. The café’s hotdog challenge appeared the most innocuous but unlike the others, which have a 55-minute time limit, it has to be completed within half-an-hour.

“We had a phone call from BeardMeatsFood a few days ago,” said café manager Sheryl Knapper. “He said he’d seen the challenge and that it sounded interesting. So he arranged to come in.”

The challenge involves six extra large hotdogs in bread rolls, with onions and chips. There’s also two corn on the cobs, beans and coleslaw. All must be washed down with a large milkshake. Sign up now for the latest news on the North Wales Live Whatsapp community

Sheryl said: “The main summer season is over but we still had lots of customers in when he arrived. BeardMeatsFood managed to finish off the meal with just two minutes to spare – he was the first one ever to complete this particular challenge.”

Neither was Adam finished. Sheryl added: “For afters, he also had some carrot cake – he always like a dessert! He said he thoroughly enjoyed the meal, though it was harder than he expected – he said it looked relatively easy but it wasn’t.”

The 38-year-old from Leeds is renowned as Europe’s number one competitive eater. His YouTube channel has 5.6m followers and he’s so popular that he reportedly had a £1m insurance policy on his stomach and tastebuds.

He prepares for each challenge by rapidly drinking around four litres of water to stretch his stomach. Other strategies include eating protein first to avoid carbs such as bread absorbing water. Where possible, he also gulps food to limit the amount of chewing needed.

His challenges have taken him around the world, even seeing off the legendary 20,000-calorie Octuple Bypass Burger at the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas. Last year he attempted a mega 10,000-calorie Full Welsh breakfast at Anne’s Kitchen in Mochdre, Conwy.

One Seagull Café customer was left in awe of Adam’s latest exploits on the North Wales coast. “I have never seen anyone eat corn on the cob that fast,” he said. “Don’t know where he put it!”

It’s understood the café’s Hot Dog Chaellenge will appear on BeardMeatsFood channels in the next couple of weeks. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox
