If your determination is strong enough there is nothing in life that can stop you from achieving greatness. IPS Sandeep Choudhry’s success is a true testament to this. After losing his father at a young age he was surrounded by responsibilities. Not having attended college or taken coaching while preparing for exams he subsequently cleared 12 government jobs one after the other and is now working in one of the most prestigious positions in the country. According to the NavBharat Times report Sandeep Choudhry hails from Punjab. In February 2004 Sandeeps father died of cardiac arrest. Sandeep was in 12th grade at the time. Only six days after the sudden death of his father Sandeep sat for his 12th-grade board exam despite significant mental stress. Sandeep had always been a good student and he passed his exams despite the difficult circumstances. Which challenges did he face while preparing for competitive exams without coaching? Sandeep has shared his life story in various interviews. He has shared how difficult life became after the death of his father. He recognized that he could not go back to regular college studies and thus opted to study at IGNOU to continue studying while helping his family. Later he began to help teach children as a way to help his family while studying at IGNOU. Sandeep completed his BA then an MA from IGNOUs open learning program. Sandeep graduated and reportedly applied for a postal clerk position at the post office marking his first government job attempt. There were 40 openings and hundreds of applicants. He passed the post office exam. He then proceeded to take many other competitive exams clearing one after another. According to the NavBharat Times report Sandeep once mentioned that during his first year of MA he attempted the UGC NET exam and cleared it on his first attempt which gave him confidence. After getting a job in the post office he went on to clear 10 more government exams without any coaching including 6 Bank PO SSC Income Tax Inspector BSF Assistant Commandant NABARD Punjab Civil Services Exam and more. What government exams did he clear besides UPSC? Sandeep experienced a pivotal moment in his life while working as an Assistant Bank Manager in Guwahati. The results of the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2010 were declared and his roommate achieved the remarkable rank of 13. This development was the tipping point of Sandeeps life. He decided to prepare for the UPSC exam. Sandeeps job required a full commitment and this made it difficult to prepare for the UPSC exam. However he was determined to give his best effort. When did he attempt and clear the UPSC exam? In Sandeeps first attempt at the UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) in 2014 he achieved the 158th rank. He shares that during the UPSC interview he scored 240 marks which was the highest in the country at that time.
