Netizens surprised by Singapore popiah pastry found in Norway

Fancy some popiah or samosa in the Arctic?

Based on a Reddit post on Sept 19, we gather it is already available there.

Redditor ImaginationSoft393 posted an image of Singapore brand Spring Home’s TYJ spring roll pastry with the caption: “Look what I found in Bodø, Norway! Stumbled upon this a couple of days back when I was at the local grocery store. It’s always a nice surprise to find little pieces of home in a place so far away.”

Bodø (pronounced “bodah”) is a town in Nordland county, and the post was met with delight by netizens in Singapore.”Wow the brand TYJ (Spring home) is really global that’s why Sam Goi (Singapore’s Popiah King) is so successful,” said a Redditor who was also curious as to how it would be cooked there.

Some netizens said they had seen the brand in other parts of the world like Glasgow, Madrid and parts of Sweden.

“Yep, found this in Abisko, Sweden too while on holiday there in the winter. Small town of just 70 residents and the supermarket had this,” said one.

“Have lived (still do) in various cities in Sweden both small and large and this is the brand you can find in even the general supermarkets,” said another.

“Mmmm Surstromming filled popiah,” suggested a netizen. Surstromming is lightly salted fermented herring popular in Sweden.

Perhaps it isn’t such a surprise to find TYJ spring rolls in far and remote places.

According to Spring Home’s website, the company boasts world-class production facilities in Singapore, Malaysia, China, and the United States, and distribution networks in more than 80 countries.
