NEM Insurance Plc has organised a fitness walk in Lagos as part of its commitment to promoting healthy living and deepening insurance awareness among Nigerians. The event, tagged “NEM Fitness Walk – Walk with Us, Feel the Difference,” brought together the company’s management, staff, and subsidiaries in a lively atmosphere of health, teamwork, and public engagement. According to a statement released by the insurer on Sunday, the walk commenced from NEM Insurance’s head office in Lagos and extended to Maryland, before participants returned to the company’s premises. The exercise aimed to foster physical well-being among staff while sensitising the public about the benefits of insurance and the various products offered by the NEM Group. Leading the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEM Insurance Plc, Mr. Andrew Ikekhua, said the initiative reflects the company’s dual commitment to employee wellness and public education. He explained that the fitness walk was not just a health campaign but also an opportunity to promote insurance culture among Nigerians. “Insurance is the only asset Nigerians have that can give them peace of mind. I always tell people to make sure all their assets are insured, and insured with NEM Insurance Plc. That is why we are out today, to advertise NEM as an insurance company and to promote our various products. So, please, buy NEM Insurance products,” Ikekhua said. He emphasised that the company’s vision goes beyond selling insurance policies. According to him, NEM Insurance aims to build a strong brand that meets the diverse needs of Nigerians while driving confidence in the insurance industry. Ikekhua also highlighted the company’s subsidiaries, including NEM Asset Management, which operate under a unified brand identity designed to simplify access to multiple financial and insurance services. “We are forming an NEM Group so that we have all our products under one umbrella, like a supermarket. Customers who come to buy insurance can also access products from our subsidiaries,” he said. The Managing Director reaffirmed the company’s resolve to keep innovating in its outreach strategies to ensure that Nigerians better understand the importance of insurance in managing risks and protecting their livelihoods. He noted that many Nigerians still underestimate the value of insurance due to limited awareness and misconceptions about the sector. Events like the NEM Fitness Walk, he said, offer an informal platform for engagement, where the company can connect with the public outside traditional marketing channels. The initiative, according to the statement, aligns with NEM Insurance’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals, which focus on community engagement, health promotion, and financial literacy. By blending fitness with awareness creation, the company seeks to show that responsible living includes both physical health and financial security. Participants in the fitness walk donned branded T-shirts bearing messages promoting insurance coverage and healthy lifestyles. Passers-by and residents along the Maryland route interacted with company representatives, who distributed flyers detailing NEM’s insurance products and services. Industry observers noted that such interactive campaigns play a crucial role in bridging the information gap between insurance providers and potential policyholders. With more Nigerians understanding how insurance can protect assets and sustain businesses, the sector could experience increased penetration and trust. Mr. Ikekhua added that the company will continue to host similar initiatives across the country to sustain public engagement and make insurance more relatable to everyday life. “We will keep exploring innovative ways to connect with Nigerians and help them see insurance not as an obligation but as a necessity for peace of mind,” he said. NEM Insurance Plc, established in 1948, remains one of Nigeria’s oldest and most trusted insurance providers. The firm offers a wide range of products covering motor, fire, marine, general accident, and engineering insurance, among others. Its continued investment in community-oriented initiatives underscores its role in promoting national insurance awareness and corporate wellness.
