A major political controversy has erupted in poll-bound Bihar with Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Malviya alleging that “extremely derogatory words” were used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother yet again during a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) rally in the Patepur assembly constituency.
In a post on X, Malviya accused RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav of complicity, stating that the opposition leader was present on stage but made “no effort to stop his supporters” from using the offensive language.

Malviya’s post linked the incident to a broader pattern of what he called “uncivil” and “uncultured” politics by the opposition. He referenced a previous “disgusting video” released by the Bihar Congress’s official account, which used AI to imagine a conversation between the PM and his late mother. Malviya framed the latest incident as a continuation of a concerted effort to resort to personal attacks.
Last month, police in Bihar’s Darbhanga arrested a man for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother, Heeraben Modi, at a Congress-RJD event.
The allegations have sparked a heated debate across social media and political circles. While the RJD has yet to issue a formal statement in response to the specific incident, political analysts and commentators have noted a troubling escalation in political rhetoric in the country. They say that the targeting of a leader’s family, especially a deceased parent, is widely condemned as a new low in Indian political discourse.
The BJP has been quick to seize on the incident, using it to portray the opposition as lacking in decorum and focusing on baseless personal attacks rather than on substantive policy issues. The incident is likely to be a key talking point for the BJP, as it seeks to highlight what it calls the “moral bankruptcy” of its political rivals.
