Nebraska Cornhusker Dylan Raiola is reportedly out for the season after he broke his right fibula, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Nebraska was hosting the USC Trojans on Saturday afternoon, a game in which Raiola was the starting quarterback. During the third quarter, the quarterback got sacked and fumbled the ball as a result. According to head coach Matt Rhule, the former five-star quarterback had wanted to return, but he was unable to run, leading the coach to decide that it was not safe for him to do so. He was replaced by true freshman TJ Lateef, who went 5-for-7 for seven passing yards. “I told Dylan, ‘I love you too much to ask you to play when you’re hurt like this,’” Rhule said after the game. This year, there was hope that with a full year of starting in the Big Ten, Raiola would develop into one of the best quarterbacks in the country. On the season, he threw for 2,000 yards on 181-for-250 passing with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. Until then, Lateef becomes the club’s starting quarterback going forward, a four-star recruit who will start as a true freshman.
