Caitlin Clark’s blows over her rookie year built up to a cluster of major injuries. It started with a small niggle, but she ended up having 3 soft tissue injuries and a bone bruise. During her first year in the WNBA, Clark was subject to a whopping 17% of all the league’s flagrant fouls. Clark suffered 4.5 fouls per game, which ranked 5th in the league. The Caitlin Clark- fandom, and even UConn head coach Geno Auriemma, thought she was being targeted. “Is she facing the rookie challenge, the rookie hardships that are inherent with being a rookie? Yes,” Auriemma told reporters, “She’s also being targeted.” That continued into her sophomore year, and the trend continued. You had the Marina Mabrey and Jacy Sheldon incident in that Connecticut vs Indiana Fever match-up. While others insist that Clark is getting the standard youngster treatment, the Golf World seems to recognize her pains. After playing only 13 games, Clark is back to sports, but it’s golf as she returned to the Annika Pro Am. “Given the way those first two years have gone in the WNBA, Caitlin may be glad to be playing a non-contact sport here,” the commentator on NBC said as Clark was competing.
