Navaratri Rangotsava from Sept. 22

Theatre repertoire Rangayana will conduct a 10-day Navaratri Rangotsava from September 22 as part of Dasara festival.

The 10-day event will feature theatre productions as well as performances of diverse folk art forms said Satish Tiptur, Director, Rangayna, here on Friday.

Speaking after releasing the festival poster, he said that the festival would be inaugurated by Minister for Kannada and Culture Shivaraj S. Tangadagi at Bhoomigeetha auditorium at 5.30 p.m.

Furnishing details of the festival, Mr. Satish Tiptur said there will be folk dance troupes performance daily at Vanaranga at 5.30 p.m., while plays will be performed at Bhoomigeetha auditorium at 7 p.m.

The plays that will be staged during the festival are as follows: Shareef written by Manjunath Bilkere and directed by Shakuntala Hegde on September 22, Novigaddida Kuncha will be staged which is based on a novel by Nemichandra on September 23. The stage adaptation and direction is by Vinod Ranga, KAVA, Mysuru.

The other plays to be staged are Rakshasa on September 24, Chitrapata Ramayana on September 25, Sri Timmarpanamastu on September 26, Kalyanada Bagilu on September 27, Choorikatte arthath Kalyanapura on September 28, Madari Madayya on September 29, Jatre on September 30, and a play titled Jana Gana Mana will be staged on October 2.

The folk dance and cultural performances include Lambadi/Mathuri dance by artistes from Telangana; Lavani, Holi dance of Maharashtra Siddi Dhumal dance of Gujarat; Sambalpuri dance of Odisha; Thiruvathirakali and Oppana dance of Kerala; Bihu dance of Assam; Naurata dance of Madhya Pradesh; Rathwa dance of Gujarat; Tappett Gullu dance of Andhra Pradesh; and Karagam, Kavadi, Thappattam dance of Tamil Nadu.

Rangayana Deputy Director M.D. Sudarshan, theatre artist Mime Ramesh, convenors K.R. Nandini and B.N. Shashikala were among those present.
