Nationwide measles-rubella drive begins from Nov 17

Health officials from Punjab on Sunday urged communities to promote awareness ahead of the National Measles-Rubella Immunization Drive running from November 17 to 29, designed to safeguard children aged six months to five years through essential injections to protect young lives across the country. Punjab health officials from various districts, while speaking with local news channels, highlighted the critical role of public support in the success of the ongoing National Measles-Rubella Immunization Drive. They emphasized that community participation is essential to ensure maximum coverage and protect children from measles and rubella, which remain significant health risks for young children. The officials urged the parents to take their children, aged six months to five years, to nearby vaccination centres, whether fixed or mobile, and stressed that timely immunization is key to preventing life-threatening complications. They also called on local communities, educators and health workers to actively raise awareness and encourage families to participate in the drive. They appealed to the community to actively participate and raise awareness about the campaign. They specifically urged the parents to ensure the vaccination of their children aged six months to five years, stressing that timely immunization is crucial to protect young children from life-threatening diseases such as measles and rubella. District health officials from Mianwali and Lahore, stated that this year’s National Measles-Rubella campaign has been expanded and will operate through both mobile and fixed vaccination centres. “While measles vaccines are normally administered to children under two years, we have extended the age limit to five years, as recent data indicates that most cases are being reported among children aged six months to five years,” they explained, urging parents to ensure timely vaccination of their children. “The Government of Pakistan is fully committed to protecting every child and preventing needless deaths from measles-related complications,” said the Punjab Health Minister, emphasizing the urgent need for parents to ensure timely vaccination during the ongoing Measles-Rubella campaign.
