Nationals interview Guardians’ executive for vacant GM’s job

DETROIT— The Nationals have interviewed Matt Forman, Guardians’ executive vice president and assistant general manager, to be their new general manager.
The Nationals fired long-time GM Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez in a July.

This is Forman’s 13th year with the Guardians. He was named Assistant GM in 2016, and he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Assistant GM before the 2022 season.
Forman’s role since 2022 has been to assist the team’s top two executives, Chris Antonetti and Mike Chernoff, in all aspects of the baseball operations department.
He is involved in player acquisitions, scouting and player development. Before being promoted in 2022, Forman was in charge of the organization’s scouting department at the amateur, professional and international levels.
Forman joined the Guardians in 2013.
Cubs GM Carter Hawkins is thought to be another candidate for the Nationals’ job. Hawkins, before joining the Cubs, worked alongside Forman with the Guardians for several years.
Cleveland has a good reputation for developing front office talent. Several high-ranking executives throughout the big leagues can trace their roots back to Cleveland.
