National Yoga Sports contest begins in Mysuru

The 50th National Yoga Sports Championships began at Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Ashram here on Thursday.

Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swami of Avadhoota Datta Peetham inaugurated the event in the presence of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MP for Mysuru; G.T. Deve Gowda, MLA; Datta Vijayananda Swami, Ashok Kumar Agarwal, Asian Yoga Federation President; and others.

The event is being organised under the banner of Yoga Federation of India, attracting a number of participants from across the country. Karnataka State Amateur Yoga Sports Association, Global Yoga Forum, and several other yoga schools and institutions from the city are hosting the national yoga event.

The yoga sports event will conclude on October 12.

Mysuru has been chosen to host the national event as the city is known for popularising yoga and is also regarded as the country’s ‘yoga hub’, with many institutions teaching the ancient practice to people from India and abroad.
