Model Kai Schreiber, the trans daughter of actress Naomi Watts, stunned the audience as she opened the Jason Wu show at New York Fashion Week.
At just 16, Schreiber achieved a major career milestone as she led the other models on to the catwalk at the show on Sunday (14 September), wearing a white bralette, an angular skirt with extra fabric and white heels – part of Wu’s Collage Spring 2026 collection.
The Jason Wu show was just one of several modelling gigs at New York Fashion Week. She also walked for Altuzarra, COS, Calvin Klein and Michael Kors.
The British-American model and actress has made several public outings with her mother. Together, they hosted an LGBTQ+ fundraising event in New York and appeared at an Armani Beauty event and Paris Fashion Week.
Schreiber is signed to IMG Models and made her runway debut for Maison Valentino. Earlier this year, she told Interview magazine: “I want to be a supermodel. Period. I’ve been practising my walks in the kitchen for years, my mom can show you all the videos I forced her to film.
“Struggling with gender identity from a young age most likely had something to do with it. I always wanted to grow up and be a beautiful, glamorous, influential woman.”
She cited Alex Consani, Hunter Schafer, Hari Nef and Richie Shazam among her inspirations, saying: “It’s so great that there’s a strong community of us in the fashion world, it’s really a doll takeover.”
On Kai’s fourteenth birthday in 2022, Watts posted on Instagram that she was “beyond proud” to be her mother. Her father, Spotlight star Liev Schreiber, is also a vocal supporter of his daughter. “Kai was always who Kai is,” he told Variety.
