The Steamship Authority’s only high-speed ferry has been taken out of service indefinitely for repairs, officials said. The M/V Iyanough, which can travel the 26-mile route between Hyannis and Nantucket in one hour, will be out of service “while our engineering and maintenance staff works to repair a small crack in the vessel’s aluminum shell,” officials said in a statement. “The crack is above the water line, but for safety reasons the vessel cannot run until repairs are completed,” officials said. “At this time, we do not have an estimated return date for the vessel. Please continue to check our website for updates. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.” The M/V Iyanough, which was named after an Indian sachem, can carry as many as 400 people (including passengers and crew), according to the Steamship Authority’s website. The ferry was out of commission for 30 days and officials estimated that the collision cost the Steamship Authority $1.7 million. Emily Sweeney can be reached at emily.sweeney@globe.com.
