Namibia, Qatar reaffirm bilateral relations

Staff Reporter DURING a courtesy meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, in Doha, Namibia’s Prime Minister Dr. Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare delivered a letter on behalf of President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, expressing Namibia’s intent to deepen cooperation between the two countries. Namibia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the State of Qatar, particularly in the energy, aviation and hospitality sectors. “I am humbled to deliver this letter from Her Excellency President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, whom I had the honour to meet during the opening of the WSSD two days ago on behalf of the President of Namibia,” Dr. Ngurare said. In her letter, President Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasised Namibia’s readiness to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation with Qatar, particularly in the upstream energy and aviation sectors. Prime Minister Ngurare thanked his counterpart for the warm hospitality and constructive engagement, while the Qatari Prime Minister undertook to deliver the letter to the Emir. He also expressed hope that President Nandi-Ndaitwah and His Highness the Emir would exchange official visits in the near future. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of Energy and Chairman of the Qatar Airways Board of Directors. The engagement is seen as critical in reinforcing business and bilateral relations, particularly in the energy sector, which had reportedly slowed following Namibia’s government transition in March this year.
