Poverty in the Namangan region has decreased 2.5 times in a short period. This was announced today, September 16, at a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the socio-economic development of the region.
’’Every time I come to this region, I am glad to see the high spirits of the people, and that both the young and old are always active and striving. Today, after seeing the positive changes and newly launched enterprises in the area, I am once again convinced that our reforms are moving in the right direction,’’ the head of state said at the beginning of the meeting.
It was noted that significant progress has been achieved in Namangan in recent years. The fact that Namangan city is hosting the international forum on poverty reduction, which begins tomorrow, is not accidental.
’’In a short period, poverty in Namangan has decreased 2.5 times. This, first of all, has been made possible thanks to the conditions created and the hard work of the region’s population,’’ the report stated.
According to the presidential press service, over the past eight years, the region has attracted $7 billion in foreign investment, and nearly 8,000 new enterprises have been launched. The number of exported products has doubled, exceeding 1,000 types. The population’s real average income has tripled. Currently, 82 percent of the working-age population earns income through small businesses and entrepreneurship.
The head of state also noted that the region has both the resources and the opportunities needed to further develop all key sectors.
It was noted that the regional governor, his deputies, and the heads of 14 districts and cities face the tasks of attracting $4.2 billion in investment by the end of the year, increasing exports to $1 billion, providing employment for 323,000 people, and lifting 26,000 families out of poverty.
Using the example of the Shurariq neighborhood in Norin district, home to more than 5,000 residents, measures have been outlined to radically transform disadvantaged neighborhoods and introduce an urban environment.
In particular, such neighborhoods will see the construction of modern community centers, as well as the establishment of playgrounds, sports facilities, service outlets, a library, a center for vocational and language training, and a bank branch. Streets will be paved and equipped with lighting. Old, low-yield orchards will be completely renewed.
Kosonsoy and Norin districts will each receive 100 billion soums, while two disadvantaged neighborhoods in every other district will be allocated 5 billion soums each. In total, 320 billion soums will be directed toward turning these areas into model communities.
It is worth noting that earlier Shavkat Mirziyoyev entered the Shurariq neighborhood of the Norin district, where living conditions are difficult. More than 5,000 people live there, including 62 low-income families, 118 unemployed residents, and 157 people working abroad.
